Automotive Consulting for Dealerships and Dealer Groups

We work directly with ownership and management to identify challenges, uncover opportunities, and develop practical strategies to improve profitability. The advice comes from more than 25 years in automotive retail, technology, inventory, and digital marketing, so it fits the way a dealership actually runs.

Where We Help

You may already know where it hurts: gross slipping in one department, used units sitting too long, or a process that never took hold on the floor. We work in four areas.

Profitability

Finding where margin leaks out of the store and what it takes to get it back.

Operations and process

How leads, deals, and customers move through the dealership, and where they stall. When the answer sits in your systems, we bring in the CRM and DMS side of the operation.

Inventory strategy

Using inventory, customer data, market conditions, and technology to create actionable sales opportunities. We tie it to inventory-led marketing so the lot and the advertising work from the same plan.

Industry change

Customers shop differently than they used to, and every month brings another vendor pitch. We help you decide what needs a response now and what can wait.

How an Engagement Works

  1. Understand the business objective

We sit down with ownership and management. What are you trying to achieve, and how will we both know it worked? This is our favorite part of any project, because it's where the ideas start to flow.

  2. Identify opportunities

We go through the numbers and the systems behind them, and we talk with the people doing the work. Then we rank what we find by what it’s worth to the business.

  3. Develop strategies

You get a practical plan in plain language. It sets the priorities, names who owns each one, and says how progress will be measured.

  4. Implement solutions

We stay involved while the plan goes into the store. We adjust what isn't working and track results against the objective we agreed on at the start.

What You Get

  • A clear read on where the store or group stands, from the numbers and from the people running it
  • A short list of opportunities, ranked by their likely effect on profit
  • A written plan with priorities, owners, and measures
  • Hands-on help putting the plan in place

Who We Work With

Dealer principals, general managers, and dealer-group executives. You're close to the numbers and short on time, so we keep the conversation on what's happening in the business and what to do about it.

Proven Results

We helped develop and execute strategies for a Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealership that moved from approximately #300 to #3 in sales in North America in the mid-2000s.

Questions Dealers Ask

What does an automotive dealership consultant do?

A dealership consultant works with ownership and management to find where the business is underperforming and what to do about it. We look at profitability, process, inventory, technology, and marketing together, because in a dealership each one affects the others.

Do you work with single-rooftop dealerships or only dealer groups?

Both. We work with individual dealerships and with dealer groups. The first conversation is the same either way: what are you trying to achieve?

Do you work on-site at the dealership or remotely?

Both. Tony visits dealerships in person and also works remotely, depending on what the work needs.

How does an engagement start?

With a conversation about the business objective. Tell us what's going on through the contact form and we'll set up a time to talk. From there we agree on what to look at first.

How is this different from hiring a marketing agency?

An agency is usually hired to run marketing channels. We start with the whole business, and marketing is one part of it. When marketing is the right lever, we build the strategy around measurable ROI.
